Top Ten Luxury
Strawberry Hill, Jamaica

Settled into the slope of a high mountaintop in the Blue Mountains region, Strawberry Hill has been an R&R pad for luminaries since Island Records owner Chris Blackwell bought the former coffee plantation in 1972. Bob Marley was one of its first guests and, more recently, Prince Charles and Camilla. In between, the likes of The Rolling Stones, Marianne Faithful, U2, Sinead and Sting have all lolled in the hotel's white plantation splendour - the results of which can be seen in a gallery of photos in the hotel bar. But it's the mountain view we're really interested in, right? Sweepingly beautiful, it takes you from views of lush green peaks around to plunging sights of Kingston city far below. The best view of the city lights at night can be found dripping off the edge of the infinity pool. Twelve villas offer various angles of these spectacularly different views. The Luxury Travel Bible can't be sure which one C & C stayed in, but we'd be rather delighted by the synchronicity if they selected Highgate, a two-storey 3,000 square feet (279 square metres) villa. Far from reggae and rock and roll, elegant dark wood four-poster beds, palm fronds, wicker chairs and white sofas abound.
